International Women’s Day 2019: #BalanceforBetter

International Women's Day 2019

Happy International Women’s Day!

As always, every 8th of March is set aside to celebrate women worldwide. And every year has a theme to mark the celebration.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is: ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change‘.

The focus of the theme is on innovative ways in which to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure. Of course, this includes women’s innovative contributions to society.

On this day it is customary for men to give the women in their lives – friends, mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc. – small gifts. This is a show of appreciation for their contribution and sacrifice to developing society.

Investing in women and girls is necessary to achieve gender equality. And empowering especially rural women to achieve the goal of ending poverty and hunger is possible.

And this is how the story of fear and terror brought about a smar innovation…

A young mother and her 3 kids woke up to noises outside her window on the ground floor of her residence. She peeps outside and sees 5 terrifying armed robbers wielding big guns.

She was gripped by fear like never before. Her husband was away on a business trip and she couldn’t call him or her brothers who lived 5 minutes away. Not even the police could she call for fear that she would be overheard.

It was way past midnight and she could attract unwanted attention. The entire ordeal lasted for well over an hour!

So after the incident, she decided to invest her time and money into developing a mobile app that anyone can use to discreetly send out distress to close contacts and numbers in case of emergencies.

Marvel Dese Jime is the founder and CEO of the innovative ConstantSee App. We celebrate her for the innovation today to mark the International Women’s Day for 2019.

After downloading and setting up the app properly you can trigger emergencies, share current location, and track in real time.

You can send out silent distress to notify your emergency contacts of your distress and exact location. The app will send an alert and show your exact location so those alerted (up to 10 users)and then they can discreetly track your phone.

This is a great app built for safety and security and is very handy for emergencies. It is also 100% free! Naija Family Blog recognizes this as a smart innovation by a woman as we celebrate International Women’s Day 2019.

You can visit the ConstantSee App website to download the app. It is also available in the Apple store and Google play store to download for free.

Celebrate with your family, friends, and loved ones today. Let each one of us be our brother’s keeper and keep the people we love safe. Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.

Nigerian Parents Arrested In US After Son Died During Fast

Nigerian parents arrested in US after son died during fast

Nigerian parents have been arrested in the US for allegedly allowing their teenage son to starve to death and his brother to become severely emaciated during a religious fast.

Wisconsin prosecutors charged Kehinde Omosebi, 49, and Titilayo Omosebi, 48, with child neglect causing death and great bodily harm to the brother of the deceased. Both charges are felonies and carry a combined maximum sentence of 37 years in prison .

Reedsburg Police Chief Timothy Becker says the father went to the police station Sunday to report the death of his 15-year-old son. When police arrived at the family’s home they found the dead teen and an extremely emaciated 11-year-old boy. The mother was also found to be emaciated.

Becker said the father told police he was a minister affiliated with Cornerstone Reformation Ministries and that the family had started a religious fast on July 19, 2018. Investigators do not believe the father is a minister and made up the name of the ministry.

The younger boy and his mother were brought to the hospital. The mother refused treatment, citing religious reasons, and was taken to the Sauk County Jail.

The surviving 11-year-old boy is in protective custody at Children’s Hospital in Madison.

Wife Seeks Divorce From Husband Over Drunkenness

wife seeks divorce from husband over drunkenness

A housewife in Abuja begged a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court to dissolve her marriage. This is due to her husband’s drunkenness, refusal to pray, and battery. So, she wants divorce.

Angyan told the court that she got married to Abdullahi 30 years ago. And the marriage has produced six children. The wife said Abdullahi formed the habit of drinking beer and refuses to perform the five times obligatory Islamic prayers.

She added that her husband also refused to observe the just-concluded Ramadan fast. ‎“Whenever he is drunk, he engages me in physical fight. And beats me up mercilessly,” she said. However, she prayed the court to dissolve her marriage. This is on the grounds of his drunkenness, refusal to pray and constant beating. She wants to divorce him for these reasons.

Abdullahi who is a cleaner in Abuja, pleaded guilty. He said that he would write an undertaking to stop drinking.‎ He also said he would share his salary into two, keep half of it to himself and give the other half to his wife for upkeep.
